smoke more eat less
I heard a story on the radio the other morning about how many teens are now picking up the bad habit of smoking just to drop a few pounds. I think that is horrible after now being an ex-smoker. What are these girls thinking? Has anyone done this before (intentionally) to diet?

I didn't start smoking to lose weight, but I've often used the desire to lose a few pounds as an excuse to not quit. Then again, I've used everything as an excuse to not quit: I need to lose weight and it's too stressful to quit at the same time, I'm stressed, a dog barked at me the wrong way, there's a partial lunar eclipse, and so forth.
Coincidentally, I now have a quasi-grip on the food and exercise lifestyle changes, so I'm stocked up on fresh veggies and ready to give quitting a full effort tomorrow morning.

That's pretty sick. I know the "ladies" would joke about being on the coffee and cigarettes diet.
I recently quit (since February! and going strong) so I can recall that in early stages of dieting, I would use a cigarette to end the meal. As if it were a ceremony haha.
Millicent All the best to you!

I didn't start smoking to lose weight, but that concept is nothing new. I've been out of high school for over a decade now but I can still remember girls huddled up in the bathrooms talking about that. I really wish our society could move from that "EVERYBODY BE SKINNY!" mindset to one where health is the prime focus. Being skinny doesn't = being healthy and being a tad overweight doesn't always = being unhealthy.

That's frightening. I've heard of it before, but I've never seen anyone start smoking specifically just to lose weight. It's a terrible idea, honestly. It took a lot of work for me to quit. I don't mind working off the extra weight if it means I'm healthier in the long run.

I can so relate to what you're saying Millicent! I have used all the excuses possible not to quit smoking. Weight is an issue for me when it comes to smoking also. I wouldn't start smoking to lose weight, but I know the hand to mouth addiction is tough for me. When I have quit smoking in the past, my weight always went up a bit. So it's certainly in my mind. Good luck to you!

I lose my weight when I stop smoking and then must use diet to bring my body to perfect and first way.

I was already a smoker when I started dieting, I wanted to do both but I'm afraid the dieting came first... I didn't want to push myself into too much all in one go and a year later I quit, nearly 100 days now which I'm pretty made up about tbh when I started exercising to help with the weight/inches it was that that made me realise I needed to stop and not just 'try' which I have for a long time.
Any way .... it is to read of kids starting to smoke for these reasons! I read somewhere not so long ago about them upping the age of being able to buy cigarettes until at one point they will be off the shelves, I must try and find the news link.

It is so sad that teens would start smoking for this reason
I have heard that smoking can help with appetite and acts as something to do rather than eat, but I've never heard of anyone actually starting smoking just for this.

I quit almost five years ago but I never thought about it until after I put the last cigarette down. It seems there are many sites out there that talk about the connection. I just did not think about it (as a tool) until I started to hear more stories about how young girls are doing this.
